Stop and Look Up!

If we don’t pay attention, we will miss some really great things in life.

One day at work there was the most amazing, most perfect, most defined rainbow I have ever seen. I could see the whole thing arched over the campus, the colors clear and vivid. A student walking near me was staring down at her phone.

Catching her attention I said, “Did you see the rainbow?”

She looked up at me, confused. “What rainbow?” she asked. (I was looking at it behind her head.)

I pointed, and her eyes followed to where I was pointing. When she finally saw the rainbow, she became flustered and jumped and almost dropped her phone.

“Oh . . .my . . .gosh . . . that . . . is . . . BEAUTIFUL!

And it was.

I laughed because she looked so startled.

Five minutes later, the rainbow was gone. I wonder how many missed it because they never looked up.

We need to practice looking up and praise God when we do. And we need to teach this habit to our children because there are so many things that seek to grab our attention. We can become so distracted that we miss God calling to us through all he has made.

And if we never look up, we never see.

Those of us who have eyes to see have a mission—to encourage others to look up.

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—
his eternal power and divine nature—
have been clearly seen,
being understood from what has been made,
so that people are without excuse.
