What we expect shapes what we do.  What we expect affects what God will do. When we approach God, what are we expecting? Let’s expect God to do great things.

What we believe determines what we expect, and what we expect, determines what we will do.

Hebrews 11:6  (ESV)
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

  1. We need to believe that God exists and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11 (ESV)

  1. What we expect affects what we will do.

Psalm 42:11(ESV)
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

  1. What we expect affects what God will do.

Matthew 13:53-58 (NIV)
When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him.

But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”

And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

  1. When you think of God, what are you expecting?

James 4:8a (ESV)
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.

Jeremiah 33:2-3 (ESV)
“Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is his name: Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known . . . “

John 14:26 (ESV)
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Matthew 18:20 (NASB)
For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”

Psalm 33:18-22 (ESV)
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.

Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.  For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

 Proverbs 13:12 (ESV)
Hope deferred makes the heart sick,  but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
